Milk (2008)
Directed by Gus Van Sant | Starring Sean Penn
In advance of Shepherdstown’s 2nd Annual Gay Pride Parade celebration on June 1, join us for a special screening of Milk, the Academy Award-winning film that tells the powerful true story of Harvey Milk — one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States.
Set in 1970s San Francisco, Milk traces the rise of a grassroots movement that transformed American politics and expanded the fight for equality. Anchored by a remarkable performance from Sean Penn, the film is both an intimate portrait and an inspiring call to civic courage.
This evening’s screening encourages reflection on the history of LGBTQ+ activism and the enduring importance of visibility, participation, and local engagement.
