Directions and Travel

The address for the Shepherdstown Opera House is 131 West German Street, Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

Historic Shepherdstown is just a 20-minute drive from Harpers Ferry and Charles Town, West Virginia, a 45-min drive from Frederick, Maryland, and a 90-minute drive from Washington, D.C.

The Maryland Rail Commuter (MARC) train service also operates Monday through Friday between Martinsburg, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. The closest stations to Shepherdstown are Duffields and Harpers Ferry.


Ramped Access

Ramp access to the Shepherdstown Opera House offers visitors easy access during their visit.

The front entrance of the Opera House is located on the north side of German Street, next to the Press Room restaurant and is constructed with both ramped and stepped access.

The lobby, bar, and theater of the Opera House are all accessible via level or ramped surfaces.

Wheelchair seating is available in the front rows of the theater.

Accessible Restroom

A newly-renovated accessible restroom is located next to the bar and concessions area. Two additional all-gender bathrooms are also available.

Metered Parking

Metered parking is available throughout town and meters may be paid using coins or with the Passport Parking app. Meters are enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm with 1.5-4 hour time limits depending on the street. Weekend parking (Saturday & Sunday) at metered spots is FREE.

Free Parking

Free, weekend overflow parking is available at the Jefferson Security Bank Parking Lot on High Street and the Shepherd University Parking Lot on Princess Street.

If you decide to extend your visit, there are several options for lodging in and around Shepherdstown.


The Thomas Shepherd Inn is located just a block from the Shepherdstown Opera House and offers a newly-renovated rooms and free-parking.

The Bavarian Inn is another option that’s just a few minutes from the heart of Shepherdstown. The Bavarian Inn offers elegant guestrooms as well as fine dining, an on-site brewery, and breathtaking views of the Potomac River.

Harpers Ferry

The Clarion Inn is conveniently located just outside of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
