Michael Winograd & the Honorable Mentshn

The Shepherdstown Opera House welcomes Michael Winograd & the Honorable Mentshn with special guest SoCalled back to the Opera House for a special Monday evening house concert during the Hanukkah holiday season.

Those who attended their 2023 appearance on our stage will remember their high-energy and high-quality performance delivered to an enthusiastic full-house audience. It’s been more than three years since that terrific show, and we are thrilled that Michael and his band agreed to route through our small town on their way to bigger places.

Klezmer, a traditional celebratory music style of the Eastern European Jewish diaspora, incorporates cantorial melody, ancient folk tunes, Yiddish poetry, Hebraic ritual, and Greek and Ottoman influences. Fans of American roots music will appreciate the blending of spiritual melodies and boisterous dance influences that capture the joys and sorrows collected over generations of the Eastern European Jewish diaspora. And those who celebrate Hanukah will enjoy this special Hanukah celebration.

Clarinetist Michael Winograd is one of the leading klezmer musicians of his generation, and the Honorable Mentshn are made up of talented klezmer musicians who are also leading figures in the genre. We are thrilled that special guest vocalist SoCalled from Montreal will be joining them on stage.

Brooklyn-based, Winograd and his band members are recognized as innovators in klezmer, bringing life to forgotten traditional melodies and at the same time expanding the genre through collaborations with contemporary music performers.
