A Shepherdstown Film Society presentation

Buena Vista Social Club (1999)

Directed by Wim Wenders

Buena Vista Social Club (1999, 105 min.) is a joyful and intimate documentary portrait of Cuba’s legendary musical masters — musicians who had been largely forgotten by the world until producer Ry Cooder brought them together for a recording session that became a global sensation.

Featuring electrifying performances by Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Omara Portuondo, and others, the film weaves live concert footage with candid glimpses into the musicians’ lives in Havana, capturing both the resilience of a generation and the enduring power of Cuban son. A feast for the ears and the soul.

Pre-film reception: Come a little early at 6:00 pm and help us celebrate the kickoff of the Film Society’s Fall 2026 season! Cuban-themed refreshments will be served, thanks to Film Society volunteers.

Post-film discussion: Facilitated discussion follows the film for those who wish to stay.
